Arthian Training Day 2025
Corporate
Arthian is a multidisciplinary consultancy providing integrated engineering, sustainability, planning and development services, with offices across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Its annual training day is one of the few occasions when people from all of those offices are in the same room, which is precisely what makes it worth filming.
I filmed the 2025 day at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow, working alone, and delivered two cuts from the same material. The full highlight film runs to a minute and a half and is built for people who were not there: it has to explain the shape of the day and give some sense of the scale of the business. The 39 second edit is built for people who were, and for social, where the opening seconds decide whether anyone watches the rest.
Filming a conference single-handed is mostly a problem of coverage. There is one run at every session and no second take of a keynote, so the choice is constant: stay on the speaker, or turn round and film the room listening. The useful material tends to sit in the gaps, in the queue for coffee and the conversation that carries on after a workshop has closed. What makes an internal film feel like the company rather than the venue is usually caught in those margins.
